Welcome to join us – Learn about Trauma, Health and Illness from the perspective of two world renowned pioneers in the field!

DR: GABOR MATE
A well-known speaker, author, and educator, Dr. Gabor Maté is also a medical doctor with more than 20 years of experience in family practice and palliative care. Well-versed in current research in the fields of addiction, stress, and child development, he regularly gives presentations throughout Canada, the United States, and Europe.
Dr. Maté is an insightful and captivating speaker who incorporates case histories, research, and personal experience into every presentation.
Rather than offering a quick solution for issues that are often complex and long-standing, Dr. Maté strives to enlighten and empower every individual who chooses to embark on their personal journey of healing as well as those who are helping others achieve healing.
His message urges compassionate care for those experiencing the emotional and physical pain that often precipitates addiction or addictive behaviors.
He is co-founder of the non-profit organization Compassion for Addiction, Dr. Maté is also an advisor of Drugs over Dinner, a toolkit to plan and host conversations about drug use and addiction. He spent 12 years working with individuals experiencing severe addiction, other mental health concerns, and HIV in Downtown Eastside in Vancouver, B.C., an area where drug use and mental health issues have had a devastating impact.
Dr. Maté is an adjunct professor on the faculty of Criminology at Simon Fraser University, and he has received several awards and distinctions, among them an Honorary Degree in law from the University of Northern British Columbia and the 2012 Martin Luther King Humanitarian Award from Mothers Against Teen Violence.
